Events and History from Gelvin, Dungiven, Co. Derry, Ireland.
Margaret Farrell, born in Ballyness in 1881, emigrated to New York in the late 1800s as did her sisters Annie, Agnes and Mary. Margaret's grandchildren Edward (Ed) Kammerer (Rhode Island) and Mary Parliman (New York) recently visited Ireland and were in Ballyness to see the old Farrell homestead (where her sister Bridget lived). They also visited Ballymacallion old school which Margaret attended and the cemetery in Drumsurn where some of their ancestors are buried. Edward was accompanied by his wife Lauri and their son Ted. Mary was accompanied by daughter Emily. Margaret's daughter Helen Kammerer, aged 97 years, lives in New York. For further information on the Farrell connection see page 207 of the publication Gelvin The Home Place.
