Events and History from Gelvin, Dungiven, Co. Derry, Ireland.
On 16.6.13 a group of forty participated in a fun walk to the Lazy Beds (potato ridges) and the lime kilns in the townland of Drumsurn Upper on the slopes of Donald's Hill. Both sites form part of the local heritage with the Lazy Beds dating to pre famine (1846) times. Quarrying of limestone ceased in the late 1930s. The weather was favourable and an enjoyable afternoon was had by all. Thanks to Charlie Canning and John T Mullan for making the walk possible. The accompanying photographs were taken on the day.
